From meaningful progress at the capitol to our 19-stop state-wide listening tour, 2013 was busy! On behalf of our entire team, we invite you to learn more about our work last year.
In 2013, we set out to tell the stories of changing-the-odds schools–and achieved 177 media stories across Minnesota.
January: We launched a more engaging, user-friendly, research-packed hub for reform advocates.
January: We released our third annual ‘The State of Minnesota Public Education’ report.
March: We released School & District Report Cards on all 1,967 Minnesota public schools–and Top Lists on those beating the odds.
April: Our groundbreaking poll of teachers across Minnesota on education reform revealed 89% support evaluations tied to meaningful professional development.
April: Our advocacy leadership in the successful MinneMinds coalition included crafting the widely distributed pre-K infographic.
May: In collaboration with several community organizations, we supported The Minneapolis Foundation’s RESETcampaign and platform to improve education.
June: From pre-K and teacher evaluations to expanding great schools, we announced our legislative session report card.
June: In tandem with Way to Grow and Think Small, we hosted parent forums to gather feedback from communities of color on pre-K scholarships.

July: We spearheaded a campaign to give principals the flexibility to hire from larger talent pools– featured in a Change.org case study for its impact!

August: 8,000+ Minnesotans dialed in to our telephone town hall, "Meeting the 21st Century Needs of Every Minnesota Learner,” with Sens. Branden Peterson (R) and Terri Bonoff (D).
September: We helped elevate public schools in the Minneapolis mayoral race by convening an education-focused forum, which turned out to be the best attended forum in the race!

September-October: We visited 28 schools in Minnesota that are beating the odds to learn what needs to change at the capitol if we’re serious about improving public education.
November: In partnership with tribal communities, we released a narrative-focused report on the landscape of Native American student success–detailing what’s working.
November: We announced that Holly Kragthorpe, a Minneapolis Public Schools teacher, joined us as a teacher blogging fellow.
December: We welcomed three new team members–we’re now a team of five!–and two new board members: Lee-Ann Stephens, the 2006 Minnesota Teacher of the Year, and Jan McDaniel, chair of the World President's Organization-Twin Cities.
December: We surpassed 10,000 “actionists.” From social media to letters to the editor, to online petitions and contacting legislators, we help elevate voices of Minnesotans.
